Best M&A software: three named products, the fit each is built for, and the rubric to check them

Best M&A software has no single answer, because the products serve different buyers: an adviser running mandates, a fund sourcing its own deals, and a corporate acquirer running integrations all want different objects. We sell one product in this category, so we have not put ourselves in the list below and we publish no price we did not retrieve. Three named products, the fit each is built for, and four tests you can run yourself.

Best m&a software: the ranking, and the criterion

  1. Midaxo: Pipeline through to post-merger integration in one place, aimed at corporate development teams. Judged on fit for an in-house acquirer that runs its own integrations.
  2. Devensoft: End-to-end M&A process management with diligence and integration workstreams. Judged on fit for a programmatic acquirer running several deals against a repeatable playbook.
  3. DealCloud by Intapp: A configurable deal platform for firms with an administrator to shape it. Judged on fit for a firm that has somebody to own the configuration and wants it to match an existing process.

The criterion is who runs the deal, not the feature grid

A corporate development team running its own acquisitions needs pipeline through to integration. An adviser running client mandates needs the mandate, the buyer list and the fee. A fund needs sourcing, passes and the relationship graph. Products built for one of those serve the others adequately at best, and the fastest way to waste a year is to buy across that line because the demo looked complete.

Test one: put a real deal in during the trial

Not the vendor's demo data, one live process with its real buyer list. Demo data hides every modelling assumption, and the modelling assumption is the whole product. If recording a real stage change takes more than about thirty seconds, adoption will fail regardless of what else the tool does.

Test two: ask for the view a partner opens on Friday

Every live process with its stage and its expected value, on one screen, without a report builder. If that view needs configuration, somebody has to own the configuration forever, and the question of who that is should be answered by name before the contract rather than after it.

Tests three and four: export, and the price at double your size

Ask to export everything as CSV during the trial. Then ask the price at twice your headcount, because per-seat pricing charges most for the juniors who do the recording. Ours is $69 a month for the whole desk and the export stays free after cancellation; ask the other three for their own answer.

Questions people ask about best m&a software

Why is Mandatzo not in the list?

Because we sell it. A ranking published by a participant that places itself first is an advert, so the three named are other people's products.

What decides which is best?

Who runs the deal: an adviser, a fund, or a corporate acquirer. Products built for one serve the others adequately at best.

What is the single most predictive test?

Timing a real stage change on a real process. Under about thirty seconds it gets recorded; over it, the record quietly stops being true.
